What is a WikiProject?[edit]

A WikiProject is a group of contributors who want to work together as a team to improve Wikidata. These groups often focus on a specific topic area (for example, astronomy) or a specific kind of task (for example, solving problems related to disambiguation pages).

Please note: efforts are now being undertaken to update the names of the WikiProjects so they are consistent—in the past, "WikiProject" and "Task force" were used interchangeably. From now on, please use "WikiProject."

Naming & categorizing conventions[edit]

When moving a group from Task force to WikiProject, "XX Task force" should be renamed to "WikiProject XX." The new "WikiProject XX" should then be removed from Category:Task forces and added to Category:WikiProjects.

For further categorizing WikiProjects, use appropriate subcategories in the form of Category:Geographical WikiProjects (for WikiProject France, WikiProject Rivers, and so on) and Category:Sports WikiProjects (for WikiProjects Baseball, WikiProjects Basketball, and so on)—not Category:WikiProjects Geography and Category:WikiProjects Sports.

Creating a WikiProject[edit]

If you don't see a WikiProject on the above list that reflects your interests or deals with an area of Wikidata that you would like to work on, do not hesitate to initiate a new one!

If you want to suggest a new WikiProject (instead of creating one yourself), don't hesitate to put it on this page.
