Categories[edit]

Hi, nice to see you here. Wikidata entries are supposed to refer to conceptual entities, not just to a group of Wikipedia pages, and it is not yet settled whether we should allow entities that only refer to Wikipedia categories like Q15217. See Wikidata:Project_chat#Categories - I think there is a more detailed discussion somewhere but I cannot find it. --Zolo (talk) 06:37, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Interwiki linking[edit]

Hi Art-top, there is a problem with different items connected by interwiki linking. Please see here. --Media watch (talk) 06:27, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You didn't fixed it, you mixed it ;) 1) A society (organisation) is not the same as a book. Interwiki linking does not always connect the same item. 2) If you empty an item, it would be helpful to make a redirect or a Request for deletion. If Ana Ivanovic (Q42345), a Serbian female tennis player, turns into the American science fiction magazine Analog Science Fiction and Fact linking to Wikidata will be like playing roulette. --Media watch (talk) 15:58, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This object is used in other wiki? It has links to other pages? No. Any critical actions I did not commit. Was an unused object, I changed the description to another object. Such actions are not desirable (see topic below), but, in this moment, is not critical. If you wish, you can nominate a page for deletion. --Art-top (talk) 17:52, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Replied[edit]

I have replied to you at WD:RFD.--Jasper Deng (talk) 07:24, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reusing items[edit]

Hi, it's better that we don't reuse items. See Wikidata:Project_chat#Recycle_pages_instead_of_deleting. Regards --Stryn (talk) 10:26, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

✓ OK. --Art-top (talk) 10:39, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ShinePhantom (talk) 07:58, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unapproved bot[edit]

Hi, please see the message I left on your bot's talk page. -- Cheers, Riley Huntley 11:08, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Still interested in your bot?[edit]

I left a message on your bot's request page. If you are still interested in running your bot, I'll approve it if anyone doesn't find anything else wrong. Techman224Talk 03:24, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The bot flag has been granted. You can use your script on it without spamming recent changes (you seem to have 133,991 edits on this account :) ). Techman224Talk 00:50, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I will try to minimize the number of edits :) --Art-top (talk) 12:26, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Noble family[edit]

Hello Art-top,

Can you add Russian name her - Noble family.

Thanks. Geagea (talk) 03:25, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New properties[edit]

Hi Art-top, please add new properties at Wikidata:Property proposal. For portraits, for example, we have already properties like Commons media file and image. --Kolja21 (talk) 06:44, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What to do with a portrait, I do not know, can be removed? Other properties that I created (related to astronomical objects), I added to the given page. --Art-top (talk) 07:44, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:04, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

--Art-top (talk) 17:13, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 04:51, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Также можно импортировать named after из статей использующих w:en:Template:Infobox planet как Property:P196.

--Art-top (talk) 19:44, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit on Q25344[edit]

Hello Art-top

Regarding your edit on Q25344, please have a look at Wikidata:Requests_for_permissions/Bot/DrTrigonBot. The alias is needed to link to automatic bot update to that page (look at Talk:Q25344 also) and the Sandbox-String is the dummy output since at the moment no property like "Currency exchange Rate" or similar exists yet. Thanks, enjoy and Greetings --DrTrigon (talk) 15:15, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please read the discussion at WD:STOPTHEBOTS, and if you could, stop your bot. Thanks! Legoktm (talk) 22:49, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

GND type for asteroids[edit]

Hi, my bot changed all the wrong GND types (term) for asteroids into geographical feauture GND type. It's currently working to change every asteroid item on WD. Sorry for my past mistake. --Viscontino (talk) 18:13, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A new bot list[edit]

Hi there! Per a request I have been working on a new informative bot list (that has secretly been hidden under the current list at Wikidata:List_of_bots. I think I am finished and it would be great if every botop (including you) could add your bot to the new list. I have added Addbot already and tried to make the template simple! Goodluck and if you have any problems get in touch on my talk page! ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 20:21, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Entity for asteroids[edit]

Hi, are you sure that asteroids are "places"? I think that the best main type (GND) property for asteroids would be "term". --Viscontino (talk) 16:21, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think you first need to make it into the public debate and the community with a positive decision to make changes to the Wikidata:List of properties. --Art-top (talk) 15:20, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Go ahead and make the deletions at your own. ;-) Vogone talk 23:44, 2 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Too long description[edit]

Hi, on item disability (Q12131) has too long Russian description. See Wikidata:Contact_the_development_team#Error_in_Q12131. Could you write it shorter? --Stryn (talk) 06:48, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Art-top. Thank you very to add the constraints of properties of astronomical objects! :-) I have a doubt about the constraint inverse of the properties parent astronomical body (P397) and child astronomical body (P398) that you just added. In fact for simple objects (e.g. extrasolar planetary systems), it is very useful, but if we want to use these properties for asteroids or for nebulae and clusters of the Via Lattea, the "inverse relationship" could become ingestible. What do you think? --Paperoastro (talk) 13:19, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, never thought of that. It seems to me that the asteroid relative to the Sun and similar cases to use any separate binding. While the connection child -> parent will break. --Art-top (talk) 14:11, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, good solution. ;-) --Paperoastro (talk) 15:08, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Constraint to property P60 (P60)[edit]

Hi, Art-top! I'm trying to organize the "item" to classify astronomical object. In my Paperoastro/sandbox I made a tentative of classification: I'd like your comments! ;-) --Paperoastro (talk) 21:47, 23 July 2013 (UTC) P.S.: concerning your question of astronomical databases, I reply you on my talk page.[reply]

For trans-Neptunian objects, I will find out information. For minor planet group (P196), my idea is organize items as I'm making for P60. ;-) --Paperoastro (talk) 20:30, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The property JPL Small-Body Database SPK-ID (P716) that you supported is available now. Please help out with other science identifiers at Wikidata:Property_proposal/Term#Chemistry_.2F_Chemie_.2F_Chimie and Wikidata:Property_proposal/Term#Stratigraphy. --Tobias1984 (talk) 09:10, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, I do not quite understand in English, and translate.google.com not cope. --Art-top (talk) 19:08, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Art-top. Why do you remove interlinks to NGC 153 (Q5081112)? --Paperoastro (talk) 10:35, 10 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I understood your reasons, but you cannot remove interlinks and leave some Wikipedia articles without item in Wikidata! Wikidata must have all the articles. You are right: some Wikipedias have duplicate articles, but, to delete the item, we need to remove before the articles! My idea is to add to these items only the property said to be the same as (P460) to the "main item". See for example NGC 1455 (Q986246) and my comments in the deletion page request. --Paperoastro (talk) 14:04, 10 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

you had a great idea to replace articles by redirections! :-) unfortunately you said that some Wikipedias did not like it, but this is a good way! --Paperoastro (talk) 10:10, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It appears this is not a good idea, although most of these articles mindlessly created by bots. While I like experimenting not venture to repeat. Probably better to agree on such action in the language sections. --Art-top (talk) 10:16, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you are right... it is difficult, but it is better discuss in every single section! --Paperoastro (talk) 11:41, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Opposed requests at RfD[edit]

Just so that you are aware, Paperoastro has opposed three of your requests at WD:RfD. Please feel free to respond to their concerns to work out if they should be deleted or not. Thanks. Delsion23 (talk) 23:46, 10 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I answered on the page Requests for deletions. Thanks for the warning. --Art-top (talk) 07:27, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately SIMBAD database has some error concerning the identification of NGC objects! Please, remove from the list of your bot, that import data from SIMBAD, NGC 21 (Q34500) (see discussion page). Thank you very much ;-) ! --Paperoastro (talk) 21:34, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For the same reason it is better do not to use SIMBAD also for NGC 1223 (Q1042245) and NGC 1225 (Q1042256) ;-). In this table I'm making the list of items with the catalogs do not to use for them. --Paperoastro (talk) 13:52, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not going to run a bot to process NGC. First teach him to understand said to be the same as (P460) and P107 (P107) = Q11651459. --Art-top (talk) 16:45, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, here many duplicates of NGC objects. --Art-top (talk) 16:45, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
These two objects I add to the exceptions. --Art-top (talk) 16:51, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Good! Thanks for telling me the constraint violation page! :-) --Paperoastro (talk) 19:31, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Importing stars[edit]

Hi, Art-top, there is a problem with the names of some stars! For example, you imported catalog names for HD 88981 (Q2490237) using the name "M Carinae", but SIMBAD has "m Carinae" and does not distinguish them! So HD 88981 (Q2490237) (M Carinae) and HD 83944 (Q2608737) (m Carianae), have the same catalogs names! Here there is the list of these objects. Is there a manner make the correction via bot? ;-) Thanks! --Paperoastro (talk) 19:45, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is a big problem. Bot is based on the title of the article and the titles of the articles always begin with a capital letter (visually, you can add a small letter at the beginning of the name in the language section with special templates, but it's just a visual change). I'll add an exception to the bot does not touch the articles with a single Latin letter in the beginning. --Art-top (talk) 06:29, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

SIMBAD[edit]

I'd like to make a proposal for a property "SIMBAD" to use as source. I need the main link that you use to import the data. Can you give me it, please? Thank you very much! --Paperoastro (talk) 19:54, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • The main part of the link: http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad/sim-id?Ident=
  • then the title of the article, for example: http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad/sim-id?Ident=HD%20215114
  • To reduce the problems I replace "¹" => '1',"²" => '2', "°" => " ", " " => "%20", "+" => "%2B", as well as the use, if possible, cut the official names of the constellations and Greek letters (example: "Trianguli Australis" => "TrA", "Andromedae" => "And", "Gamma" => "gam", "Mu" => "mu." (in SIMBAD two-letter Greek names are reduced to the name with a dot). Example: name HD 215114 convert to http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad/sim-id?Ident=HD%20215114, BD+20°2457 convert to http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad/sim-id?Ident=BD%2B20%202457, Pi Andromedae convert to http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad/sim-id?Ident=pi.%20And. Replacement " " on the "%20" is optional, but if in name present plus sign, there is confusion as SIMBAD plus perceived as a space; replacement full names with abbreviated as optional. So that link http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad/sim-id?Ident=Pi Andromedae will also work fine. You can also see finished recording with links, for example, here: 14 Aquarii (Q530426). --Art-top (talk) 07:01, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Since we started talking about the properties. We have no properties "star name" or "the Latin name of a star". For example Rho2 Arietis (Q2718974) in SIMBAD has 3 names not associated with catalogs: RZ Ari, rho02 Ari (or rho2 Ari), 45 Ari. They have no place to indicate. --Art-top (talk) 07:59, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also for me the use of "catalogue code" is the better solution. --Paperoastro (talk) 09:27, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I made the addition of qualifiers, example: IC 5378 (Q13084670). --Art-top (talk) 13:45, 29 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Good! :-) --Paperoastro (talk) 16:42, 29 October 2013 (UTC) P.S.:for 2MASS you can use 2MASS (Q1454942) ;-)[reply]

Merging items[edit]

For merging items, you can try the following tool: Merge.js gadget. It makes it much easier to do, and easier for the admins to check and follow up your nominations. -Cycn (talk) 12:05, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Could you remove from the list of your bot NGC 21 (Q34500)? The identification of SIMBAD is wrong (see this discussion! Thanks! ;-) --Paperoastro (talk) 21:24, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I offer my apologies! All exceptions have been made, but due to a bug in the program, they were ignored :( Now corrected. Thanks for the help! --Art-top (talk) 21:56, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry! :-) --Paperoastro (talk) 22:08, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's a shame that a glitch in plain site - comparing "Q123" with "q123", and, of course, always get "false". --Art-top (talk) 22:19, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I removed it because there're already value type=Q6999.--GZWDer (talk) 13:31, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The property asteroid taxonomy (P1016) that you supported is available now. --Paperoastro (talk) 22:19, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Art-top, following this source, Hilda group (Q1753240) is a group of asteroid and not a family. The difference is small, but its origin is different respect to usual asteroid families. ;-) --Paperoastro (talk) 22:19, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comment, I will consider! --Art-top (talk) 22:22, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Minor planet No 336756[edit]

I see that your bot has added follows (P155)/followed by (P156) minor planets.

How far has you done? I have just created an article about (336756) 2010 NV1, and it looks like I am first in Wikimedia with an article, but I fail to see if there is any WD-item about it. -- Lavallen (talk) 16:24, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Do bot common database for all articles about asteroids. Articles on the close asteroids (336756) 2010 NV1 yet. Wikidata element created and insert in the database. Now rewrite bot engine, will run it later. --Art-top (talk) 03:09, 11 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:47, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You use "imported from" for sources but I think "stated in" is better[edit]

Ra-bot-nik has added sources linking to the JPL Small-Body Database (Q4026990) using the imported from Wikimedia project (P143) property. In general I thought this property is for source info copied from a non-reliable source (such as wikipedia). Property stated in (P248) is used for links to reliable sources such as JPL Small-Body Database (Q4026990). Could you change this?

Also; I think it would be better to use JPL Small-Body Database SPK-ID (P716) instead of provisional designation (P490) for the designation. Filceolaire (talk) 11:18, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
