The Cayman did not have engine failures as stated due to IMS bearings. That was in Boxsters, not Caymans. The Cayman came out with the M97 engine in 2006 which modified the IMS problems in Boxster and 911 engines. The 2006 Caymans have the M97 engine which is pretty much identical to the M96 save for the larger diameter IMS bearing that CANNOT be extracted without splitting cases. The dynamics that impact the M97 IMSB vary greatly from the earlier M96 IMSB units. In short, we've seen very, very few M97 bearings fail on the street from full time street cars.
