The disclosure today that the purported Hitler diaries are fakes has left the source of the 60 volumes unclear, but investigations so far have led to former Nazi officials in West Germany and elsewhere.Gina Heidemann, wife of Gerd Heidemann, the journalist for the West German magazine Stern who purportedly discovered the diaries, said by phone from Hamburg today that her husband was unavailable and ''not in Germany.'' She refused to say where her husband was or when he would return.''It's terrible,'' she added, ''but no matter what happens, we will always believe in the diaries.'' Mrs. Heidemann said she knew the diaries' source, but refused to reveal it, and she accused West German officials who said the diaries were forged of seeking to ''suppress the truth.'' (English)
