Some questions[edit]

Sorry, I somehow missed this proposal, I have raised a couple of questions on Wikidata talk:Wikiproject Fictional universes. -Zolo (talk) 06:07, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Same here, I missed it, too. And I have encouraged the critique you raised at Wikidata talk:Wikiproject Fictional universes#use of "fictional" items there. --Marsupium (talk) 13:46, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'd prefer based on (P144) instead. --Infovarius (talk) 07:40, 15 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

P1074: "used to link a class of items appearing in a creative work with the analogous class of objects in the real world" - the same? --Fractaler (talk) 12:20, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Based on the description, manifestation of (P1557) is not limited to creative works (like 1074). d1g (talk) 09:47, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Fractaler, D1gggg: No. This other property is based on the FRBR concept of "manifestation", which links for example a musical album to the CD object it was engraved on, or a musical album to one of its recording. It links a character of a play to one precise time an actor or an actress played this a specific day on a theater. It's very different from this property that links a character to the real person whom its supposed to represent - say "Abraham Lincoln" to the analog in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (Q587707)  View with Reasonator View with SQID. Maybe in this case we should however just use inspired by (P941) View with SQID. author  TomT0m / talk page 10:02, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the FRBR reference, it wasn't clear before your comment! d1g (talk) 18:47, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Only for classes?[edit]

Does it mean that Earth-that-was (Q17781684) fictional or mythical analog of (P1074) Earth (Q2) is wrong? --Loominade (talk) 15:30, 30 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I guess as mentioned above statements with based on (P144) fits in those cases. author  TomT0m / talk page 17:12, 30 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
based on (P144) should be used for works used as a basis - at least according to the proposal and quite a few descriptions. The earth is not a work. I think inspired by (P941) is a good alternative.
But actually I don't know why we should not use P1074 on instances. Sometimes a fictional entity represents some real entity by reference (name, etc). It should be possible to say that this entity is said to be that other entity. A fictional entity can be inspired by/based on some other entity without actually representing that other entity. And a fictional entity can represent another entity without actually being "based on" it (there may be only few similarities apart from the name). - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 08:20, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and changed the property constraints and English description to allow individuals, too. Feel free to discuss and revert if there are any problems. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 11:27, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I noticed that this property is used on Gaius Julius Caesar (Q5517445), which cause an alert because it is also used on Julius Caesar (Q3188509) and Caesar (Q5016966) with the same historical referent (Julius Caesar (Q1048)). Is it intended and the property is not well used on the above-mentionned elements? --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 18:51, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted the constraint. Originally this property was restricted to classes and then it makes sense to have such a constraint to avoid duplicates, but after broadening the domain to include individuals, too, it is not very useful anymore. Perhaps a complex constraint could be added for classes. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 07:19, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Distinct-values constraint[edit]

@Haansn08:: You added distinct-values constraint (Q21502410) to property constraint (P2302), and I removed it. I think that an entity in real world, such as a city or human, can have more than one fictional analog in different creative works. For example, Joe Biden (Q65053339), a fictional parody character in The Onion, is a fictional analog of the real U.S. President Joe Biden (Q6279), who may have other fictional analogs in other fictions. --Neo-Jay (talk) 20:20, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
