The sitter’s husband, Jan Miense Molenaer (c. 1610-1668), as recorded in the post-mortem inventory of his effects, on 10 October 1668 (F.F. Hofrichter, Judith Leyster: A Woman Painter in Holland’s Golden Age, Doornspijk, 1989, pp. 88 and 102, note 4, no. 22, ‘An oval portrait of the wife of the deceased’.). (Probably) Samuel Vanderplank, London merchant of Dutch extraction, by circa 1700, and by descent to the present owners. |
